hey id like some of those bootlegs, would you sell?
— hangar18 on September 23, 2009
I have samhain bootlegs too, and the box set and the video that this clip was ripped from. I like danzig, so does rapecentric, that's why I pointed this post out to her. Not that I think I need to justify or defend myself when someone like Gilroy tries to make fun of someone, or marginalize them for taking offense when someone makes a rape joke or uses it as a lazy ploy to get someone to pay attention to an event that has nothing to do with it. I just think it's time to stop being afraid to talk about it except in the context above (which is usually the only way it comes up), especially when 1 in 4 women are affected by it in the their lifetime and the FBI ranks it as the 2nd most violent crime you can survive. So, Gilroy, even if somebody were to troll around the internet all day making sure nobody made light of rape, who's life is sadder? Their's, or that of someone who would troll through here and try to make fun of them for doing so? This may not seem like the site to get into a debate about the impact of rape jokes and the culture that they serve, but if you're not prepared to do so, then you shouldn't post this shit and/or get bent out of shape and resort to tired stereotypes about the type of women who might have a problem with it.

I've got some good Samhain bootlegs if anybody wants to trade. Rapecentric, you want one?

rapecentric, do you get up every morning, brew some coffee, yawn a little, brush your teeth, feed the cat, clean the litter box, sit down at your laptop with a hot cup of joe, check your email and then, spend the remainder of the day googling "rape" so that you can crusade around the internet making sure no one makes light of rape? some life you've got going. or do you read this website regularly and today was not the day for a rape joke? maybe you watched Sleepers last night and it spoke to you. i donno.

not in the way you are insinuating. i dont read his songs as "im going to go rape some chicks" you, on the other hand, write a post that says " glenn danzig might try to rape you and then after he should go to this really important "friends with benefits show". the fact that you use rape as some tacky after thought, instead of addressing it as an issue or just not using it in your post at all in itself condones the behavior. if you dont get that, you shouldnt be writing about it. go write about pop/goth or something. be responsible for the crap you put on the internet
— rapecentric on August 05, 2009
I don't "perceive" of him writing a song about rape because he did write a song about rape.

interesting derek feels like he has to look to congo to find a suitable article on rape. heres one for you: http://yesmeansyesblog.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/this-is-what-rape-culture-looks-like/ accusing someone of being a rapist because you perceive them of writing songs about rape isnt being an activist or bringing awareness to an issue. its being passive aggressive and trying to make light of a situation thats pretty fucking serious. read up on sexual violence... keep your eyes and ears open for events from project ENVISION in williamsburg (http://www.examiner.com/x-17658-NY-Womens-Issues-Examiner~y2009m7d19-Envision-an-NYC-without-rape)if you are actually concerned about rape and sexual violence and dont post dumb things from the 80's with no relevance.

Humor? Jokes? Seriously? It's Glen Danzig, if you want to spend a nice, romantic evening with him circa 1989, please be my guest.
— jason diamond on August 05, 2009
This is the sort of humor you would expect from a person who works at a magazine that has pictures of Rosanne Barr dressed as Hitler, burning gingerbread men in an oven (Heeb Magazine). Do something positive

what's the difference between hipster irony and irony?
— blake on August 05, 2009
id be interested in knowing what this has to do with rape. is it an attempt at an "edgy" title that draws people in but then fails to discuss anything but self promote your own event? is it supposed to be funny? or another dose of hipster irony for us to all choke down? anyways, i really enjoyed the video and its complete irrelevance.
— rapecentric on August 05, 2009
Oh, yes. Thanks for turning me on to a video that has been around since 1991...making fun of Danzig hasn't been edgey for years, and rape jokes never have.
— Patches on August 05, 2009
I mean Glen Danzig sings about raping people, and after he shows you his books, he might try to rape you.
