I stumbled into what I thought was Milwaukee, weary from travel but excited to meet Michael Jantz—the Svengali behind Black Eagle Child. My blurry eyes were met with a man in heavy black eyeliner, speaking about the Native heritage of Milwaukee as two long hairs bowed before him, speaking in tongues. Then I overheard a tale of shooting with a 3 handicap on some greenbelt in Arizona and I realized my error.
Lobelia, Jantz’s latest guitar opus (out on Australian label, Preservation) may not resemble the music or maintain the stage presence of Alice Cooper but its hefty plucks and gentle melodies will certainly incur uncontrollable bouts of bowing should you encounter Jantz within his Milwaukee stronghold. We most certainly aren’t worthy.
