Chain & The Gang, "Why Not"
» The grinch of music past and future drops some more groovy nihilism.

This is the lead-off track on Music's Not For Everyone, album number two for Ian Svenonius' Chain and the Gang. "Why Not" presages the wry nihilism of a collection with tracks called "Not Good Enough", "Youth Is Wasted On The Young", the biting "For Practical Purposes (I Love You)", and of course, the title track, which echoes his 1,700 word treatise on the misuse of music written for Vice, where the section "People Don't Really Like Music" positions the human manipulation of sound for entertainment and art as "a niche taste more akin to needlework or kite flying than... something like food or sex."
We will extrapolate from the 12-bar blues quips on "Why Not" that if the Ian Svenonius who sings "I blew out the candle without making a wish / I ate my dinner out of the dog's dish" has any hobbies, they do not include needlework or kite flying.
