Because we’re in party central mode over here (It’s Friday, can you blame us?), we’ve got another track to turn your attention to, and it’s a throwback if ever there was one. With all the hype a Spice Girls reunion has been causing as of late, it’s no wonder talented artists worldwide are turning to some of their material for covers of their own. Indie pop artist CAPPA has done just that, covering the song that defined the summer of 1996 for many, “Wannabe”.
Featuring Jon Santana, CAPPA’s cover follows the same melodic pattern of the original, at a slightly slower tempo. What comes to mind is the breathy freshness of Jessica Simpson’s “In This Skin” mellowed out into a trance track, a la Lana Del Rey. We can see an intimate crowd gathered, moving their hips to this track in an underground club in Brooklyn just as well as we could see thousands gathered at Coachella, swaying to the sound of this fun cover.
