Fabio Orsi is not ambient

Slapping the ol’ 'ambient' tag on any form of glacial moving composition does the genre (and its many off-shoots) no favors.

There’s nuance to each form it takes. Fabio Orsi’s output alone proves that out. He’s always reimagining drone, never settling on a particular sound and yet always staying true to the depth found slowing down melody.

His latest, Stand Before Me, Oh My Soul, somehow turns the tortoise into the hare, though the album never runs out of steam trying to cross the finish line. Rather, it’s the sort of rabbit that likes to procreate. A lot.
