The new Gang of Four. That is not Lenny Kraviz. Press photo.
You've got to hand it to them, they know how to name an album. 1979 might have been the year of mocking big-metal music industry with an LP called ENTERTAINMENT, but 2011 will be a year for CONTENT. Come January 25, Yep Roc will drop the first Gang of Four album in 16 years.
It's not the full-on old dudes lineup, but the album was put together by two of the founders in Jon King and Andy Gill and recorded as a full-on band with Thomas McNeice (bass) and Mark Heaney (drums). And of course, the release will be available in myriad variations of content. Along with CD and vinyl:
It will also be available in the Ultimate Content Can - this contains the new album on CD, a book version of an art piece Jon and Andy have done on ceramic tiles depicting the last 40 years of world history, a book of lyrics, a book of Rotoscoped photographs of the band's emotions, phials of band members' blood and a scratch and sniff booklet which reflects the key areas of human activity.
That's right folks, don't even think about following up a quintessential rock oeuvre unless you're ready to dole out the scratch and sniff booklet.
