Hear Hums, "Toad Licking"

By Hannah Ronson » The Florida duo creates a track from a massive sound database.

Eddie Roqueta

While adding the finishing touches to their third album, OpenGainesville Florida's Hear Hums have found other ways to keep busy. We already wrote about "Shrines", the first single from their upcoming release, an example of the the band's harmonic, droning sound. Impatient for Open to be completed, Hear Hums contributed to the second voume of the Sample Based Life project, a free form sound project where artists upload banks of sound online and draw from the collective library to create original compositions. All contributors work from the same sample sources but can add their own effects. Hear Hums' effort is "Toad Licking." Currated by Florida hommies Sumsun, the second volume of Sample Based Life is awaiting a relase date. "Toad Licking," is choppier than "Shrines" but shares similar characteristics like background bells and slowly blending noises that ultimately create an inviting sound.
