Hmm: New Crystal Antlers art vs. old Impose flyer
» Crystal Anter's album art looks familiar.
Disclosure: Karen Aragon is not only my girlfriend, she also makes most of the show flyers Impose has used in the past 12 months or so. (At least all the good ones.) So we were amused to see this piece of work sitting on the shelf at Cake Shop the other day:
Crystal Antler's Tentacles album art by Janet Beeler
We're not throwing darts, just noting the mind melded technicolor pyramids that must have grown separately, since Ms. Aragon drew this one in color pencil last October:

One more time...
Karen Aragon, "Untitled"
Janet Beeler, Tentacles art
And if you're curious, here's her latest work, and our next party:

Janet, you sound like fantastic company! I'm glad no one took this article too seriously because that wasn't the intention.

if anyone wants to know more about my art feel free to come to 232 e. 10th ave. conshohocken pa 19428. i am almost always at home. i go out for groceries and to visit on sophie the polish lady next door. i have a cat. her name is kitty. if you come over i hope you are not allergic to cats! also, before you come, if you tell me your favorite food, i will try my best to cook it for you, but i'm no julia child! thank you, jesus loves you.

The art was picked off of our friend Janet's wall. she made the patterns by cutting out circles and other shapes from dried paint. She's from Philly and has a house full of this stuff hanging around. pretty sure she didnt base ever piece off of a flyer. just thought I'd say something here.

Whats the deal with all these "crystal" bands, anyway? Crystal Stilts, Crystal Castles, Crystal Antlers, Billy Crystal, Crystalis for NES, Crystal McCans who is this girl i used to work with in Lubbock, Texas. Too many crystals!

also, Maurice If you look at the strong font on the cover of issue 31, its for "the band next door" I'm fairly certain the article does exist in the issue. It's bedroom recording artists piece. What is the band in question? I always thought the point of the photograph was that he's in a living room and you don't know who this guy on the cover is... that's how the face of music is changing. There are no faces, just people in their bedrooms recording in solidarity instead of out at venues, in studios, and practice spaces with a group.

Wow, you both came up with the same simple concept of using childrens' paints to make a smudgy color pyramid. And speaking of image appropriation and misuse: Let's take a look at the cover of your final print issue (volume 31.) It is amazing to me that the band represented by the guy on the gold couch was mentioned nowhere in the issue. So it is fine to take a picture of a band and use it to move copies of your publication but not credit the people responsible for said image. The photographer is good, but he gets credited. All I am saying is you obviously think whatever was going on in that picture was interesting (enough for the cover!) but not enough to even get a sentence inside the magazine or at least something saying who the band on the cover is.

hmmm.. methinks this maurice is a bit bitter about this cover. could maurice, in fact, be the dude on the cover? i read that article. it mentioned the bands that played but it wasn't about them so much as a phenomenon is what i got from it, which is now taking shape in the mainstream with Wavves bullshit Blank Dogs bull shit, etc

get some of that plagiarism money Karen! looks like we might have to start copyrighting our flyers.
— Blake on May 07, 2009
actually, I think the flyer that used the Tooth was the best Impose flyer of the past 12 mos. No wait, I take that back, it was the one with the blurred pop art photo -- the use of text and font on that one was amazing.
