Jason Urick's "Fussing and Fighting"

Jason Urick's "Fussing and Fighting"

Ex-WZT Hearts member Jason Urick's solo output mines the dreamier, pulsating side of that Baltimore outfit's massive rolls of triple-laptop ambience vs. jazz drum.

Urick cites London reggae legend Jah Shaka and Pita as direct influences for the tracks off his latest Thrill Jockey 12-inch, including “Fussing & Fighting”.

The video is directed by visual artist/Baltimore stalwart Mark Brown, and could indeed be interpreted as a fusion of frenetic dub music and chopped noise experimentation. It could also be called eight and a half minutes of feeling increasingly woozy inside and that'd work too.
