Listen: Stag Hare
»
Stag Hare make dreamy textures that expand out into pop songs that, in this post-Merriweather world, are open to a much wider audience of those seeking a little twinkle in their hiss. Stag Hare self-releases his albums (click his linked name above for some purchasing power), and this track is the lead off his latest, which is perhaps entitled Black Medicine Music as a sort of "by hippies for hippies" warning to keep fratty/urban/type A's dizzy from Animal Collective-Unconsciousness from stepping too far into the realm of smoke, mirrors and loops.

I love this band. It's got that earthy, crunchy vibe without 1) turning into a god damned stinky Phish noodle fest, 2) being so abstract that it hardly qualifies as music and 3) giving one the sense that it's simply hipster wankery. Great instrumentation and the perfect amount of drone, too! But regardless, I'm digging what they're doing and look forward for future releases from Stag Hare. Best, JP
