Some extremely strange middle ground between sinister and sunshine is explored on the "mini LP" (shouldn't this just be called an EP?) by the duo known as The Lava Children. It's almost like their entire music collection consists of Sun City Girls and English folk records from the 60's, and like my summer got a whole lot better because of that.

This is amazing and I don't really understand how it works. There's a kind of BoC-ish placid/skin-crawly sensation underneath everything that might have to do with some sort of tricky microtonal arrangement.
