The Heliocentrics are rapidly approaching a "done it all" career arc. The UK collective backed DJ Shadow, Madlib's Yesterday's New Quintet and a living legend in Mulatu Astatke. The Centrics continue its rise in collaboration with a record accompanied by famed jazz maestro and multi-instrumentalist Lloyd Miller.
The intersect between these two collaborators fuses at an appreciation for Persian and Eastern music, specifically jazz. Miller's interest in the regional sound was sparked by his father's employment in Iran in the late 50's - yes, the 1950's. It would be collector's fascination with Miller's 60's LPs, specifically Oriental Jazz, that thrust him into social circles that included The Heliocentrics.
If this is boring the ever-loving shit out of you, all this jazzbo talk, then allow me to reel you in with the word "psychedelia." Miller & The Heliocentrics is highly meditative in a free form mix of Eastern arrangements, but for the younger crowd still not trained in subtleties of jazz linguistics, feel free to trip out on the angular pyschedelics synonymous with the Heliocentrics' sound.
