Matthew Papich has been sending out warped, alien signals as Ecstatic Sunshine for some time now. Enter his new project, Co La, which takes the same bath of sonic fluid and lets it pulse uniformly down frictionless slopes, alighting something that new listeners will hear before anything else: head nodding beats.
Papich has made 18 tracks of this new project available in the past two months, including the five tracks below, uploaded just this week. Maybe it's because of the nature of the short loops, but there's something distinctly southern-tropical about many of the underlying fragments on these tracks- somewhere between the arpeggetiated flourishes of calypso and the tell-tale syncopation of reggae, Matt Papich's hangin' in Baltimore with some new Co La tracks.
