Aesop Rock assumes fat kid identity

Hail Mary Mallon

Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic (of Sonic Sum) and DJ Big Wiz are long-time collaborators and tour buddies, so it was only right the trio form a supergroup. Assuming the moniker Hail Mary Mallon after Typhoid Mary, the first person in the U.S. identified as a carrier of the pathogen associated with typhoid fever, the group is releasing its debut on Rhymesayers Entertainment.

The Hail Mary Mallon project has been in the works since it debuted in '09 on the on the fourth installment of Definitive Jux Presents. With Def Jux out of the picture, Rhymesayers is primo-real estate for the release of Are You Gonna Eat That? – possibly the worst album title ever conceived. Do not let the title dissuade you. Instead let this rad video for “Smock” do the proper coaxing towards HMM.

“Over the bra, under the dress” is my new favorite bar from a chorus, possibly beating out Chip Tha Ripper's “two going at once, I like my girls like I like my blunts.” It's the simple things.

The proper recording of “Smock” can be heard at graveyard known as RollingStone.com.

Are You Gonna Eat That? is out digitally on May 3 with a vinyl and CD release to follow on June 7.
