C Y G N, “Newclear”

On May 15, C Y G N released No Sunshine For Bad People, the follow up to his January MDMA EP. The prolific French producer is apparently already moving forward from his latest project, releasing the “Newclear” single yesterday. The three-minute song isn’t on No Sunshine, and appropriately, stands firmly on its own.

On “Newclear”, C Y G N crafts a straightforward-yet-irresistible melody and puts it through the sonic wringer. How many different ways can one refrain impress upon a listener? C Y G N could use this track as a litmus.

Amidst fizzy synths and a haunting underbelly, the jerky lead melody transitions from an icy keyboard to playful synths. The whirring sound effects and busy percussion compliments the leads and give each pocket its own dynamic. CY G N expertly sequences the track stop-and-start intermissions before the next earworm interation.

No Sunshine For Bad People is available on Bandcamp. “Newclear”, a de facto bonus track by proximity, can be streamed below.
