Chris Dave and the Drumhedz ft. Elzhi, Phonte, and Eric Roberson, "Destiny N Stereo

It’s always a great idea to start your week off with your brain moving right. Some lyrical wizardry over masterful drum play seems like a strong recipe for motivation. Enter Chris Dave and the Drumhedz, who got with some of the most talented lyricists in rap for “Destiny N Stereo,” the first single from the group’s self-titled debut out via Blue Note records. The track is a strong harbinger for the project, with jazzy horns and guitar plucks adding just the right amount of instrumentation around their sturdy drum play.
The track is designed to put the rhymes — and Eric Roberson’s vocals — on center stage. Elzhi and Phonte both take turns shining in their space, delivering assonant, quick-witted verses. Phonte aims to “stay abreast like I’m D. Parton” before telling the imitators of his R&B/hip-hop fusion how proud he is as their sonic daddy. Elzhi follows up with assassin-like lyricism, questioning why some would rather “serve 5 to 10 than work a 10 to 5.”
The album is set to be released January 26th and will not only feature Phonte and Elzhi but other well-regarded artists such as Anderson.Paak, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Bilal, SiRAnna Wise and more. You can stream “Destiny N Stereo” below.
