Circle Pit, motherfucker

Before I even got to listen to the music, Australian duo Circle Pit impressed me for three reasons:

1. They look like their lives are totally fucked, and making this music is really the only thing keeping them from cleaning up their acts. I'm going to go ahead and make the claim that there's a pretty good chance that this is the second coming of Royal Trux.

2. “There's no rock n' roll bands that are any good, except for us.” —That's a direct quote from the band, featured on their press release in the spot where there are usually blurbs culled from various blogs and publications. Nobody says things like this anymore, and nobody calls it rock n' roll either. It's all dubgaze, chillstep, or neo-nu-garagewave.

3. Their name is Circle Pit.

In case you're curious, they just released a 7″ on Hardly Art, and it's the sort of record that would make Buffalo Bob tuck his junk between his legs and dance. It also makes one think of Beach House going over to the dark side, coming up with the decision that everything they've ever done was wrong, and the only remedy is to do heroin and sound like Spacemen 3.
