Conveyor, “Mammal Food”

Being able to cite Marnie Stern, Battles, and Neutral Milk Hotel as influences all within one 2-and-a-half minute track isn't easy, but Conveyor manage to do it with both determination and subtly bended deviations. On a track called “Pushups” that we featured in October, the Brooklyn group was showing us how to break through the mythical void into happier feelings, while on “Mammal Food”, the goal feels more decidely high-brow. The lyrics tinge of that Jeff Mangum preciousness without overdoing it, and with a guitar line as angular and geometric as this one, the effect manages to bring out both our nostalgia for early 00s thoughtful lyricism and a pointed future of guitars as vessels for futuristic scuzz and skronk.
