Dan Melchior, Filthy Frozen River Rag

Post Author:

London-born and U.S.-based Dan Melchior is at it again, releasing an interesting – and massive – collection of songs in the form of a new album. Filthy Frozen River Rag is comprised of 28 unique tracks, and is set to release on August 19th. We have the exclusive premiere stream of the work.

A collection of snapshots of while he was in a state of flux, Filthy Frozen River Rag is as melancholic as it is inspiring, crisp and refreshing as it is lethargic. The guitar work is stunning, with a vintage rock n’ roll feel to it, serving as a comfortable bed for the reverb in Melchior’s psychedelic vocals. In some songs his accent is noticeable, while he shifts to a more Americanized version of sound in others. “New Pair of Trousers” boasts distant sounding vocals – almost as if they are being slurred through an old megaphone – while “Rotten Rubber Rabbit” is a folksy storyteller’s dream. There’s no telling what he’s going to do next, and it’s quite thrilling.

Filthy Frozen River Rag is certainly a collection of moments, as the songs are not truly cohesive, but we believe that brings an interesting and fun facet of cross-genre to Melchior’s art.

Filthy Frozen River Rag is out August 19th via Stolen Body Records.
