Since releasing their debut LP back in 2013, Brooklyn-based group Dead Leaf Echo have established themselves as one of the top rising purveyors of shoegaze going. With an EP already in their rearview this year, the band is gearing up to release their sophomore LP, Beyond.Desire, which was, appropriately, recorded with My Bloody Valentine engineer Guy Fixsen and Jorge Elbreht (Ariel Pink, No Joy).

Impose Magazine is happy to bring you the exclusive premiere of Dead Leaf Echo’s latest single, “Sunlessoul,” today. On the track, the band layers over a bedrock of reverberating, furious strums with dreamy harmonies, searing lead guitar lines and elegant, twinkling keys towards the close.

The band shares:

“A Sunlessoul. A Darkness with no hope. Don’t be betrayed by its sunny melodies. The lyrics are a view into something that is deceptively evil about the human condition. The song is partially inspired by agoraphobia. “Learn to live outside” Ana and I were watching Twin Peaks and Harold Smith was a spark for some lyrics. He dies lonely but hopefully, the listener can learn that by keeping your emotions inside then you will never be human.”

Stream Dead Leaf Echo’s “Sunlessoul” below and look for Beyond.Desire out October 13th via PaperCup Music (digital) and Moon Sounds Records (CD/vinyl).
