While LA ambient/electronic/psych/weirdo band Dream Panther haven’t been around for that long, they have already earned a reputation for producing some awesome instrumental tracks, including last year’s debut Beyonce’s Child EP. But now the three piece is stepping it but by teaming up with SoCal rapper MiBBs (of Pac Div fame) for their new single “BLCK LCS”.
Lyrically, “BLCK LCS” tells the story of a struggling rapper, as he tries to escape his circumstances in, as the sampled speech at the end suggests, South Central Los Angeles—wonder who that could be? Over the laid-back, grooving loop, MiBBs delivers lines like “How to make a million with no cash in hand/my homie got an astro van/so we picked up some tools and we packed on in, scheming,” and comes to the conclusion that everything ultimately comes down to the fact that “money is the subject.”
