Guantanamo Baywatch, “Love Kin”

Post Author:
Guantanamo Baywatch

On Guantanamo Baywatch's Suicide Squeeze split with Shannon & The Clams, the Portland swamp rockers coin a sound worthy of the description country crust. “Love Kin” has a western twang, just enough bibilical reference, and an even-keeled level of hokiness that make the single fit for a dosey-do with the waittress at Golden Corral.

Greasy and country-fried, “Love Kin” is Guantanamo Baywatch putting all egos aside to be real with its loved ones, asking “what are we without love?” The answer—as always—is nothing. Whether it's the science of the birds and bees or the type the good book illustrates, Guantanamo Baywatch is just as sincere as they are campy in expressing one of life's deepest emotions.

Read on for a brief interview with Chris Scott of Guantanamo Baywatch. And since shout outs are being given, Impose would like to shout out Guantanamo Baywatch for the tequila shots and bonding at The Barboza in Seattle.

Who are some special folks in your life who you'd consider love kin?

Shout outs to our Suicide Squeeze kin, Shannon and The Clams, Means Jeans, White Fang, Courtney and The Crushers and our closest love kin The Chuckleberries! Happy Birthday Russel!

How did the Suicide Squeeze offer come together?

That credit would have to go to the always beautiful Jen Knight (Love U boo!). We have been friends with Jen for a while now and when we partied in Austin together last SXSW we briefly and most likely drunkenly discussed future plans for Guantanamo Baywatch. Soon after we returned from that tour we got a phone call from David over at SSR, he came to Portland, bought us dinner and came to our show that night. Next thing you know we received a recording contract in the mail!

What's coming up for Guantanamo Baywatch? Full length in the works?

Beside the newest split single with our homies Shanny And Da Clammys we are writing songs for a new full length to be recorded in Atlanta this summer at Living Room Studios. Sup Curtis!

What's the nicest thing you could say about Shannon & The Clams… your flipside single buddies?

They're a better band than us.

What gift would you get your love kin? Is there anything inappropriate for this particular type of special someone?

Gift certificate to Applebees. Always Appropriate.

Preorder the “Mama” / “Love Kin” single at Suicide Squeeze.
