Happy Place, “Spoon!”

Post Author:

NYC’s self-described “noise rock” band Happy Place–a dream of an instrumental foursome comprised of Will Mason (drums/compositions), Austin Vaughn (drums), Andrew Smiley (guitar), and Will Chapin (guitar)–is set to champion the airwaves with their talent. Their debut album Northfield was written by Mason–who has an extensive background in music and composition–while dealing with sleep deprivation, and the inspiration from his altered states is almost palpable in the entire album. We’ve got the exclusive premiere of their newest single “Spoon!” right here.

Happy Place wastes no time getting into the song, staccato instrumentals frantically riddle the sound space from the get-go. The tempo stays upbeat and, if I may say so, almost insane, while the melody changes slightly over the course of the track. It’s an upheaval to the sugary pop sentiment we’re used to hearing, and–admittedly–insanely endearing.
