Brooklyn’s Haybaby have shared their first single from their forthcoming Blood Harvest EP, which comes on the heels of their 2015 debut LP Sleepy Kids.

“Joke/Rope” explores the confluence of emotions that everyone must deal with when faced with troubling times. Some turn to humor, others to anguish; this is the “Joke/Rope” we face. Speaking with The Fader, the band explained, it’s “about what you do when you’re feeling low—whether you try to find the humor in the situation or wallow in despair.” The ostensible rock outfit of Leslie Hong—who also fronts Granny—stands on the precipice of these two seemingly contradictory feelings, though the humor seems lost. What does one do when all you can see is “That cruel, cruel joke / And that sweet, tight rope”?

Blood Harvest will be released on April 29 via Tiny Engines. You can stream “Joke/Rope” below.
