Jazz Cartier, “Just In Case”

Post Author:

Toronto Rapper Jazz Cartier has been at it for a while, but he caught the attention of the blogosphere with his “Lil Wayne” tribute track, which was played on OVO Sound radio early last month. The record was intended as a tribute, but worked as a stellar showcase for Cartier in his bid to create a legacy. He recently capitalized off of his current buzz with “Just In Case,” a hypnotic, ahem, jazzy offering produced by Lantz.

The core of “Just in Case’s” soundscape is a horn which is either a graceful tranquility or a chilling siren apt for a horror scene—depending on who’s listening. The moody harmony and sharp 808 programming properly sets the scene for Cartier’s brute, candid lyrics. “I am a liar, I am a cheater, I am becoming my dad,” Cartier frankly notes.

One of Cartier’s best traits is his arsenal of myriad flows, and he let some off just in case you thought Toronto’s only export was OVO. You can stream below.
