John Andrews & The Yawns, “I’ll Go To Your Funeral (If You Go To Mine)”

“I’ll let you be in my dreams if I can be in yours,” Dylan famously sang halfway through side B of Freewheelin‘. The sentiment is re-imagined with a darker and more psychedelic wit by John Andrews on “I’ll Go to Your Funeral (If You Go To Mine)”. It’s an apt lyrical twist: Andrews filters the spirit of twangy old-time folk songs through slow-cycling psych sounds throughout Bit By the Fang, his debut solo album for Woodsist. Andrews is also the drummer in Quilt and plays keys in Woods, but on his own has pursued various creative projects over the years, like making hand-drawn animated stories in his free time and releasing small-run home-recorded tapes. Bit By the Fang is similarly imaginative, like a dusty prismacolor story book that’s more telling as it fades. It’s out April 14 via Woodsist.
