John Wesley Coleman III, "Scarecrow Smile"

Post Author: Meredith Schneider

Austin’s John Wesley Coleman III might be gearing up for his latest release, an album by the name of Microwave Dreams, but that won’t stop him from giving us a sneak preview of it all. Today, we’ve got the exclusive premiere of his original track “Scarecrow Smile”, a song that takes you back to nature with its intro of a stripped down guitar and chirping birds.
Coleman’s deep vocals weave through the building instrumentals, as he addresses nature (“Woke up everywhere, on the fields of love / woke up in the bushes, with the doves”) alongside the simple acceptance of loneliness amongst it all (“Woke up on the table / table of loneliness”). The crashing cymbals aid to bring the instrumentals to a loud cacophony of sound toward the latter half of the track, as our adrenaline builds with it. The key takeaway, perhaps, is that through it all, you can always rely on the scarecrow’s smile.

Microwave Dreams is out January 27th via Super Secret Records.
