Lateef The Truthspeaker

Lateef the Truthspeaker is born and raised in Oakland. As a founding member of Latyrx and the Quannum label (formerly SoleSides), Lateef is 20-years deep in putting Northern California in our ears. Lateef kept it Town by recording his Firewire record over the course of four months in Oakland. He linked up with fellow Bay Area representers Del The Funkee Homosapien and The Grouch for “Oakland” an homage to the city that houses their families.

Lateef's FireWire record is highly collaborative, featuring production appearances from Dan The Automator, Chief Xcel, DJ Shadow and Headnodic of Crown City Rockers. The collaboration list keeps building with Mocky, a producer who wrote/produced half of Feist's Grammy nominated record, handling the remix responsibilities for Oakland by giving a casual nod to the Bay's history for tracks with a bit of whistling. The remix gives the dedication track a carefree bounce for those days when one might sit on the dock of the Bay with their shoes kicked off, letting their feet chill in the icey waters.

Lateef's FireWire is out November 8 on Quannum Projects.
