Lord Finesse funks with Blue Note

Lord Finesse on Diggin' On Blue

Rappers love Blue Note recordings. Luckily for rappers, Blue Note recordings has always been a progressive label willing to be a shelter for jazz music's most avant garde. The label embraced its hip hop influence, unlike other old dudes that took hip hop to the Supreme Court.

You know that dramatic intro to Dr. Dre's “The Next Episode,” the one that makes you say “awwwww shit” every time it drops. Dre owes a bucket of thanks to David Axelrod and David Mcullum for recording “The Edge.” That awe-inspiring sample would not be possible without Blue Note's approval. In continuing its appreciation for hip hop's dedication to Blue Note, the label commissioned the finest in hip hop producers to arrange mixes featuring the greatest lifted samples from the Blue Note lab. Biz Markie, Pete Rock and J Rocc of the Beat Junkies have all done mixes. In early November Lord Finesse added his name to the decorated list of mix masters in the Diggin' on Blue series.
