Midnight Snack, “Magic”

Post Author:

With a mish-mosh of personalities, there’s bound to be a mish-mosh product of music. For the members making up Midnight Snack, their music speaks for the five unique musicians– their music is both boisterous and mellow, intensified and calm. Consisting of Jack Victor (vocals, drums), Michael Johnson (guitar, synthesizers), Katie Richter (vocals, trumpet), Peter Brownlee (bass), and Zack Kardon (guitar), Midnight Snack has a knack for combining the unusual.

Their latest single, “Magic,” is no exception. At first, the track seems strictly folk driven, but the post-chorus proves the tonal dimensions Midnight Snack is willing to tackle. With grotesque intervals to offset the beauty in Victor’s vocals, the track listens like a mashup between Leon Bridges and Wild Nothing. Utilizing the playful quality of the vibraphone sets off the tone for a quirky, upbeat, and undeniably chill track. Midnight Snack creates a land with a dream-like filter over it, distracting us from the perpetually mundane loop of everyday life.
