Naps, “Jean Skirt Mystique”

As a Florida native, I rarely get to write about Florida bands. Yeah, Gainesville has a really strong music scene with The Fest and bands like Hundred Waters, but Northwest Florida, where I’m from, not so much. Which I why I was so excited when I stumbled upon Naps, a Tallahassee-based indiepop foursome.

One thing that is so cool to me about Naps is that all four members (Ryan Stanley, Katryn Macko, Laura Hicks, and Jeremy Probst) work at Club Downunder, Florida State University’s student-run venue that is a musical oasis in a relatively barren region. But anyways, Naps will be releasing an EP in the near future, but for now, please check out the single “Jean Skirt Mystique”.

“Jean Skirt Mystique” begins as a tender, easygoing ditty about wanting to escape an unfulfilling relationship. The song gathers momentum before ripping into a heavy final verse that signals a shift from simply dreaming about change to actually executing it.
