Newish: Raffertie's Wobble Horror! 12″ is all about the b-side

At 21, Raffertie is already a successful UK grime/dubstep DJ, having done an exclusive mix for BBC Radio 1, and remixed acts from Franz Ferdinand to Baltimore/Philadelphia noise nip-hop crew Food For Animals. And in the meantime, he's been melting down dancefloors with his own warbled, bass-blasted post-rave visions. His second and latest, a co-release from top UK experimental/dubstep label Planet-mu and Philadelphia's Seclusiasis, is the fittingly named Wobble Horror! 12″, an almost beatless, haunted funhouse of mewling synth, psychotic carnival organ, slippery basslines. But it's the faster b-side “Sugar” that really sees his style jelling: after a minute and a half of lulling the listener on too-smooth trance pads, the bass drops in a huge sloppy mess barely held in check by the techno handclap loops.
