Palmistry, “Protector SE5”

South London-producer Palmistry continues to knock it out of Southwark with his brand new, whisper-soft single “Protector SE5.”

Currently available for pre-order, the single’s set to drop on July 15 via Brooklyn-based Mixpak and is already something to “hold onto tight” thanks to its languid minimalism and crisp, contemplative production.

While boy band-esque vocals and sentiments bordering on sap aren’t exactly the stuff most reggae-tinged records mess with, the down-tempo meets dancehall riddim of Palmistry (aka Benjy Keating) still manages to carve out a comfortable niche on Mixpak’s roster. Bolstered by ballad-soft vocals and a slight dub inflection, Keating’s pared-down shtick takes all the aggression out of these steamy, basement-dwelling jams and turns the track into something slow-burning and intensely romantic. After all, who needs dutty when you got all this care and devotion?
