Poppy Red, “Hand Into The Fire”

Austin-based bedroom recording project-turned-full-shoegaze-band Poppy Red will soon be setting up shop in New York City, where songwriter Molly Long will be taking it on as a solo effort, focused on guitars and introspective vocals. But before that happens, the previous iteration will put out a cassette, featuring the just-released single “Hand Into the Fire”, unsubtly reminiscent of The Cranberries and narrowly escaping New Age attribution. In the intro, disjounted guitar plucks echo over deep-ocean ambience before Long comes in with restrained vocals, which she gradually gives over to more vigor as the song approaches its uninhibited climax.

“Hand Into the Fire” comes out this summer on cassette via Nineteen98. Stream it here.
