Sadie Dupuis, “Pretend To Be Nice” (Josie and The Pussycats cover)

There aren't many things you'd have to do to get me to love this cover—Josie and The Pussycats, Sadie Dupuis, Father/Daughter Records are all foregone conclusions when it comes to making verifiably good shit. And this is no exception. In a recording done by Dupuis sans band Speedy Ortiz, and in honor of the forthcoming Record Store Day on April 19, the Dupuis version of the Pussycats classic is a little darker, a little more serious, but faithful to its unbelievably poppy hook. I'd like to think that Dupuis would fit right in along Rachael Leigh Cook in the 2001 teen film, leopard cat ears and all.

This cover comes from a forthcoming compilation called Faux Real, which will feature real covers of fake bands from Bent Shapes, Radiator Hospital, Cocktails, Potty Mouth, and more.
