Shark?, “When You Were Mine”

Shark? released this song as the “B-side” to a digital single last week, and the reinterpretation of the classic Prince cut takes out all the middlemen and gets straight to the message and the guitar solos. Shark?'s sound is more brooding and asexual than the Purple King, and, surprisingly, the reinterpretation works well as a much more classic-style rock song. The bon-vivancy and bounciness of Prince's songwriting is still there, but the updated version speaks to love lost in a new way.

You can listen to the whole digital single here.
