SOFI TUKKER, “Drinkee” (Dinnerdate Remix)

Post Author:

SOFI TUKKER is on a world wide brand campaign and while that includes being plugged in to our collective data frame via Apple Watch commercial in one respect, the organic reach matriculated into the stream systems that flow toward Munich’s Dinnerdate. With diverse remixes of José González, Editors and BOY on the resume, Dinnerdate’s m.o. of blending UK deep house with the Berlin underground is well-equipped for the gumbo groove of SOFI TUKKER’s “Drinkee”.

Dinnerdate’s handling of González’s “Crosses” transformed a guitar ballad fit for headphone listens beneath a weeping willow into the sort of undeniable rework that appalls folk heads and fascinates the dance floor. For the “Drinkee Remix”, Dinnerdate has an easier tableau to translate into the deep house spectrum. SOFI TUKKER absorb Brazilian psych and bongo rhythms that coalesce into a world disco sound well-fit for house translation. Although, Dinnerdate seems to do the unexpected in his remix. The breakdown and the mid-song self-remix for a rousing outro feel like the most likely to appeal to the Munich producer, but he avoids the bait on both. His version of the Brazilian influence is not the baile funk clubs, but the vast rainforest engulfing the countryside.
