The Lagoons, “Gems”

Post Author:

After The Lagoons‘ – a music project comprised of brothers Joey and Ryan Selan – “California” made waves on Hype Machine and Spotify, and made the Viral 50 in the U.S. and Canada within a week, we thought we’d be hard pressed to see another big single from the same release. But we were wrong. They’re back with “Gems”, and you’re going to want to check it out.

Smooth, mood-making music is all we can think when we hear the first waning guitar and beautiful jazz instrumentals. Giving off the impression that they may be more egotistical than most, the first few lines include lyrics like “I have money, I have power, I have friends and I have faith / I get everything I ask for, but I’m still calling your name / I have riches, I have morals, I have talent.” But the guys waste no time in admitting “I want love, I want comfort,” noting that the best things in life are free. The moral of the story, when you whittle it down, is that no matter how confident you may appear to be, if love is absent then there is an emptiness to it all. And these guys have found a way to deliver it with their signature finesse and incredibly well-composed musical stylings.

Keep up with the talented duo here.
