The Only Ocean, “Cul-De-Sac”

Post Author:

The Only Ocean wastes no time getting you into the groove with “Cul-De-Sac”, the first single off their upcoming EP Too. A four-piece comprised of childhood friends Wesley Hill (vocals/guitar), Dustin Whalen (guitar), Shae Kakos (drums), and Alex Burdess (bass), we’ve realized that that might be why we love them so much. This southern California Indie band does NOT mess around.

This song is an amazing goodbye. As mentioned before, it’s upbeat. There is no lead-in to the final sound, it starts out with a bang and doesn’t let up. The Only Ocean has found a way to blend their instrumentals in a unique and mind-altering, rock/psych way with this song. Not to mention the crazy guitar riff that starts at 2:18. (If nothing else, check out the track for this gem.)

“Because everything about you is a waste of time / You tricked my eyes to thinking that you were worth the fight” repeats the chorus, as you realize the “cul-de-sac” they are referencing could just be a runaround relationship. Which–to an extent–can’t we all relate?

**Fun Fact: Did you know that the plural form of “cul-de-sac” is “culs-de-sac”? Just want to reduce your chances of feeling like an asshat when you talk about streets in the future.

Too is out soon.
