Tropic of Pisces, “Symmetry”

Caitlin Greene

Tropic of Pisces

Matt Scheiner, guitarist for Oberhofer and bass/synth player for Mon Khmer, has a new sideproject under the moniker of Tropic of Pisces, with an EP featuring the title track, “Symmetry,” that might have you wondering where it's going for a couple minutes but turns into something really special toward the end. That transition may be the highlight, but the entire song has an intricate and tightly plotted arc that's also worth noting. Elements of tropicalia, funk, and electro-pop pepper the slick texture, with some sneaky energy bursts along the way.

Symmetry comes out February 25 and is available for preorder on limited 10″ vinyl via Ooh La La Records.
