XL Middleton, “Purple Sheets”

Post Author: Andre G
Like many artists, LA’s XL Middleton has been affected by the tumult pervading the United Stages. Undeterred as an artist, XL resolved to put his feelings in his work, infusing his upcoming, aptly-titled Things Are Happening album with a somewhat darker twist on electrofunk. Whereas so much modern funk music is used to radiate joy and romance, XL promises an expansion of the themes tackled on the project.
Recently, XL released “Purple Sheets,” a majestic single which could serve as an expository foil for the project, evoking a feeling of cruising down the vast LA highway, pondering “all the things that made us feel this way” while. The song is anchored by a methodical bassline that coalesces into glorious synth play which synesthesizes a jaunt through the very skies sung about on “Purple Sheets.” We’ll know for sure on October 6th, when the album releases on MoFunk Records.
