Black Lips have been off radars for more than a few months and in the studio with none other than Mark “Fucking” Ronson for their upcoming full length. The last one they recorded was basically an experiment in d.i.y. lo-fuggery, which was not universally loved anywhere but here. In fact, this is the first time they've gone with a big producer. Yes, you see where they're going with this.
This should be the album where the B.Lips start fucking with mellophone hooks and autotune, right? Maybe. But never, ever forget the thing that made this band great: peeing, onstage. So, maybe we'll get some autotune, if it is their farts that they are auto-tuning. (Or so we can hope.)
Actually, there's some mention of saw playing in this, a VBS.tv number on the Black Lips and Mark Ronson's hair, in which we learn a few things:
– Cole Alexander is going to talk to Charles Manson
– Cole Alexander plays guitar into a human skull-mic for one song
– You can hear bits of “I Got A Knife” and “Drugs”, which sound like clean versions of other Black Lips songs.
And there's also some tomfoolery in which the band beats some meat.
Finally, they're breaking out of the studio for a full-on spring tour, including all of April with the Vivian Girls:
