Resident music expert of the internet Owen Pallett recently released his critically acclaimed fourth LP In Conflict on Domino. It’s one part Andrew Bird, one part Animal Collective, and one part Pallett’s technically virtuosic arrangements and fiddling. Domino just announced a series of remixes of the album’s lead single, “Song for Five and Six”, featuring contributions from DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn, Ada, and The Cyclist.
Given the recent passing of DJ Rashad, his and DJ Spinn’s remix of the track will probably present itself to be one of the more sought after of the three. They completely shed Pallett’s vocals and highlight the arpeggiated synth, letting the beat go wild in traditional footwork style. Ada’s remix is slowed down and has a more house vibe. The Cyclist’s remix is the most easily danceable, making use of rubbery bass synth and a very simple, skeletal synth. Still, none of the remixes solve the grammatical issue of the lyric, “There’s a gap between what a man want and what a man will receive.” Let’s leave that one for the resident musician grammarian of the internet.
