After a series of collaborative EPs, Madlib and Freddie Gibbs, aka MadGibbs, announced the debut long player Piñata, due March 18 on Madlib Invazion. Piñata will include previous singles, “Shame”, “Thuggin'”, and “Deeper”, along with guest appearances by Raekwon, Domo Genesis, Earl Sweatshirt, Mac Miller, Ab-Soul, Danny Brown, and Scarface. Basically, the likelihood of this being anything short of phenomenal is virtually nil.
On “Robes” featuring Odd Future's Domo Genesis and Earl Sweatshirt, Madlib lays out a satin-soft r&b loop for the three rappers to wax hustles. Gibbs has grown increasing comfortable with Madlib's chops — often off-tempo imperfections intentionally left as aesthetic — loosening up his gruff delivery. He even breaks into song, while maintaining his street savvy reputation.
Piñata is out March 18 on Madlib Invazion.
