Kanye & Jigga over some “Otis”

Post Author:

One of the best G.O.O.D. Music Fridays tracks that Kanye gave out was easily “The Joy,” which with the help of Pete Rock manipulated some warm Curtis Mayfield soul. The track felt like a trip down memory lane, not only for the Curtis, but as an homage to the production style that made Kanye a break out artist – before all the robotic R&B phases.

With the debuting of the Watch The Throne tracklisting last week, one of Fresh Daily's most wanted from the lineup was “Otis” as Kanye listed Otis Redding as a feature on the track, much like he did with Mayfield on “The Joy”. Sure enough, this is pure heat from Jay-Z and Kanye as the two trade bars of braggadocio over one of the greatest soul artists of all-time. Anticipation for the collaborative album is definitely at an all-time high, despite the Madlib-produced cut getting left on the studio floor.
