Killer Mike to speak on race relations at MIT

Post Author:

Killer Mike has roots in community organizing, a background that plays out in his socially conscious lyrics. His shows often double as platforms for talking about political and social injustice, so it makes sense that universities are starting to call on him to deliver lectures on race, hip hop, and activism. On Friday night, MIT will host Killer Mike: Race Relations in the U.S.  It’s part of an ongoing “Hip Hop Speaker Series” presented by the school, a series that also included a lecture by Young Guru. “Killer Mike will speak about race relations in the US in his April lecture at MIT and address how current and future technologies impact race relation issues,” reads the press release. “Topics such as Ferguson, to the SAE incident in Oklahoma, to white privilege and black empowerment will be included.” The lecture is only open to MIT students and faculty.
