The beatific singer and songwriter who was part activist, part environmentalist, and part mentor and guide for legends like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, has passed away at New York Presbyterian hospital at 94. Seeger's grandson reported his passing, saying he died quietly. The musician had an over 50-year career, popularizing standards and inspiring groups like The Byrds to transform his songs—”Turn! Turn! Turn!” was a Seeger song written from the Book of Ecclesiastes. Seeger was still playing up until late in his life, most notably at Obama's inaugural with Bruce Springsteen, performing Woody Guthrie's “This Land Is Your Land”.

Watch this incredible clip of the musician on the Johnny Cash show in 1970, as the two legends discuss banjo technique.
