NY Press beats NY Mag, which wasn't hard
»
When it comes to newspapers and magazines, we read all of 'em. So it took us a minute to catch up to NY Press's attempt to one-up New York Magazine's crappy 40-song playlist that intended to define Brooklyn circa 2006-now, or something.
Anyway, the Press list is informed enough to not read like a 45-year old editor randomly arranging Hype Machine search results. Pasted below is the NY Press' top ten songs that define Brooklyn right now. Go here for the full list.
01 “Coward Cracks the Dawn” by Shilpa Ray and Her Happy Hookers
02 “Ecstatic Rite” by Liturgy
03 “Open Shut” by Blank Dogs
04 “Don't Pass On Me” by Woods
05 "Bang For Changes" by Zambri
06 “I Hate New York” by Thorns of Life
07 “Hair Tapes” by Noveller
08 “Bear” by The Antlers
09 “Soda Popinski” by Javelin
10 “It’s Time!” by caUSE-coMOTION!

sounds like a playlist ripped straight from the pages of Impose :) Although you have to give credit to a place who's willing to put a black metal band at #2. Hmmmm, maybe their editors are friends with the band??
