Stockton's Surf Club debut their cover of Sarah Records legends Another Sunny Day with a punk guitar rendering of “Anorak City.” A two-minute, twelve-second wonder that brings to mind an uprising of parka-clad aspiring rabble-rousers running from the post-industrial inlands full of strip mall cities to gather amongst cool-jacketed lads while ducking vicious rivals in even cooler parkas who troll the streets looking for a brawl. But amid the tide of mean licks and classic teenage-indie-kicks is the romantic vocal delivery from Frankie Soto that begs an answer to the charged metaphor of those borrowed words from the aformentioned Londoners of; “Will you be my anorak, baby?”

Surf Club began when former Craft Spells member Frankie Soto formed a group with Eddie Zepeda, Alfonso Robles, and Jose Medina around a fond attachment to VOX-toned indie jams with young-at-heart guitar jangle and board-busting progressions. Often seen playing in the Bay Area, the boys landed a spot at this year's Noise Pop festival in SF and are the best news to come out of Stockton since Pavement. Their upcoming record Young Love marks the first release ever on the new label Death Party Records, an imprint founded by Portland's Michael Avishay of Ghost Animal. Release date is set for May 15 on a limited edition of 300 ten inch records, 100 on white vinyl. You can pre-order yours here.
