Rap Dragons take us ten stories high

Rap Dragons were bound to happen, a Baltimore based rap group down with the Wham City collective.

Rap Dragons border between invoking Tribe-like vibes of the Soul, De La that is, and being far too kitschy. The duo's debut Ten Stories High is an excursion through big beat jazz samples and production suitable to soundtrack a John Hughes film. Dragons Nick Often and Greg Ward might be their own worst enemies here. Both rappers kick the fun flows, but have a tendency to pull lines that sound like Mike D on a bad day. Tone down your critical ear and you might get some joy out of lines like "I love you like Kevin love Winnie" on "She Got Me." Although when the world's biggest rapper right now is blowing minds with bars like "beat it like a cop," it's difficult to be judgmental of Rap Dragons' modest style.

This is a free debut though. It won't cost you a wooden nickle to give Rap Dragons a listen. Take the opportunity to decide if you feel like hanging around for Featuring Baltimore, which will feature samples from Baltimore bands on each track, or leave them trapped in the dungeon.

Respectfully, Terrence, I must point out that not only did you misquote Mike D, like the reviewer misquoted Rapdragons, but you both also have truncated the rhymes too much. You've included only the beginning of each rhyme, as if you started a sentence and didn't finish it. "I love you like Kevin love Winnie" is a lot different than: "I love this girl like Kevin love Winnie/ She give me a hard Mickey when she put on the tight mini" just as "Everybody's rapping like a big commercial/ actin' like life is just a big commercial." is not as complete as "Everybody's rapping like it's a commercial/ Actin' like life is a big commercial/ So this is what I've got to say to you all/ Be true to yourself and you will never fall"

Mike D had bad days. Act like it's not awkward to hear "Everybody's rapping like a big commercial/ actin' like life is just a big commercial." - Pass The Mic

Factual Errors: Sure, Rapdragons are a rap group that is down with Wham City, but this phenomenon was definitely not "bound" (i.e. waiting) to happen. There are several rap groups that have been down with the Wham for a minute, most notably Height w/ Friends (released on Wham City Records), AK Slaughter, and Jones. Additionally, the lyric in Rapdragons' She Got Me is "I love this girl like Kevin love Winnie" not "I love you like Kevin love Winnie" (this is really obvious because they keep saying "I love this girl like ___ love ___") Lastly, Mike D has never had a bad day. (reference Sure Shot) My Opinion: Did this reviewer listen to this whole record? Why focus on what you weren't feeling, but only allude to a more soulful Tribe Called Quest slash De La Soul feel apparent on the record? And why not mention some of their harder songs like Haze, Runnin the City, Ready for War, or Moon Rocks to contrast the sweetness of She Got Me, which comes late in the record and isn't really indicative of what a listener should expect from the whole album. Thing is, the reviewer only had so much space, and it would be hard for me to hit all the beats on this record in a couple paragraphs. But, there's a whole lot going on beyond the parties and the ladies. It's awesome that Impose is talking about Rapdragons though. Everyone should download their record cause it rules really hard.
